Why Perform an Energy Audit?
Understanding both why and how energy is used at your facility is critical in order to know how to improve. Are the lights on when they don't need to be on? Is your HVAC system properly sized and running as efficient as you think it is? A detailed energy assessment will help reveal where you stand in terms of water and energy use and will provide a firm baseline that can be used to understand savings from future energy conservation measures.
An energy audit will provide your business’s energy use profile, to include the following:
The 2KB Approach
ASHRAE, the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers, has developed a level-based auditing system. Together, we will work to understand which level is best-suited for your current needs and the steps needed to complete each.
ASHRAE Level 1
This level provides a high level audit of your water and energy use. Using your utility bills, location, and a brief discussion with someone knowledgeable about your facility, we will extract industry standard Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to compare to similar facilities. Based on the analysis, we can determine a list of energy conservation measures that may help improve your facility and whether deeper analysis is worthwhile.
ASHRAE Level 2
The next level involves a deeper dive to understand the energy use details. At this level, our team of experienced engineers will visit your facility and conduct an in-depth walk-through. The walkthrough will involve identifying all major equipment and appliances, to include:
In addition to understanding the components, we will also take the time to interview your employees to understand usage patterns as well as identify any known issues and recommendations. Using the collected information, we will break down the monthly cost and consumption to identify the major energy consumers at your facility. The Level 2 audit will flush out the major energy conservation measures and allow us to develop preliminary energy savings, potential costs to implement, and payback analysis.
ASHRAE Level 3
This level is also known as the Investment Grade Energy Audit. We will utilize data loggers and industry standard energy modeling software to provide cost savings estimates that we’re willing to stand behind. We will also provide actual cost estimates from experienced vendors ready to move forward with implementation.
