About 2KB Energy Services

2KB Energy Services is an Atlanta-based energy management and sustainability consulting firm that helps public, commercial, and industrial organizations reduce energy consumption and decarbonize their building portfolios. We act as a technical advisor and owner’s representative, specializing in fiscally responsible decarbonization projects that focus on practical waste elimination and efficiency.

We are a small but growing business, and team members have the opportunity to shape how we work, grow quickly, and see the direct impact of their work with clients.

Position Overview

The Energy Analyst will support the delivery of technical energy and decarbonization services for a variety of clients, including local governments, K–12 schools, higher education, industrial facilities, and commercial office buildings. Reporting to a Technical Project Manager, this role focuses on performing energy audits and analyses and developing actionable recommendations that balance sustainability goals with fiscal responsibility.

This position is ideal for someone with 2–5 years of relevant experience who enjoys a mix of field work, data analysis, and client-focused problem solving in a small-business environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform energy audits for public, commercial, and industrial facilities, including site visits, data collection, and identification of efficiency opportunities.

  • Analyze utility data and building performance to develop baselines, identify trends, and quantify savings from energy conservation measures.

  • Develop energy models using tools such as eQuest and RETScreen to evaluate efficiency and decarbonization strategies for buildings and portfolios.

  • Prepare clear, concise audit reports, technical memoranda, and proposals that translate engineering analysis into practical recommendations for clients.

  • Build and maintain dashboards and visualizations (e.g., in Excel and Power BI) to communicate performance, trends, and project impacts.

  • Support measurement and verification (M&V) of implemented projects, including data analysis, savings calculations, and documentation.

  • Conduct research on policies, incentives, technologies, and best practices related to energy efficiency and decarbonization.

  • Maintain and analyze building performance data in tools such as ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager and ArcGIS.

  • Assist with client-facing deliverables and presentations, working with project managers to tailor messages to technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Contribute to internal process improvements, standard templates, and knowledge sharing as part of a small, collaborative team.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience conducting ASHRAE Level 1 or Level 2 energy audits.

  • Familiarity with M&V methodologies and standards (e.g., IPMVP) and savings calculations.

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (mechanical, electrical, energy, industrial, or related) or another highly relevant technical field such as physics, building science, or environmental science with strong quantitative skills.

  • 2–5 years of professional experience in energy, building performance, sustainability, or a closely related field.

  • Solid understanding of building systems (HVAC, lighting, controls) and basic thermodynamics/energy fundamentals.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel for data analysis, including use of formulas, charts, and data organization.

  • Experience with at least one of the following: ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager, eQuest, RETScreen, ArcGIS, or Power BI, and a willingness to learn others.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to work with large datasets and draw clear conclusions.

  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to document technical work in a structured, client-ready format.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a dynamic, small-business environment.

  • Willingness to travel up to approximately 10% for site visits and client meetings.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with public sector or institutional clients (cities, counties, schools, universities).

  • Exposure to decarbonization planning, electrification strategies, or portfolio-level energy management.

  • One or more relevant certifications in progress or completed, such as CEM, LEED, EIT, or similar.

  • Basic scripting or data automation skills (e.g., VBA, Python, or similar) are a plus but not required.

  • Experience with fleet electrification consulting.

Work Environment and Growth

2KB is a small, mission-driven firm, and this role is well suited for someone who wants to grow with the company and take on increasing responsibility over time. You will work closely with senior staff, gain direct exposure to clients, and see your work move from analysis to implementation in the real world. All staff have access to training, professional development, and support in pursuing certifications such as CEM, LEED, and others. There is a clear, achievable path for advancement as your skills and responsibilities grow.
